Jaw Disorder (TMD)

If you experience jaw pain, clicking, locking, headaches, or facial muscle tension, you may be suffering from TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder) — a condition affecting the jaw joints and the muscles that control jaw movement.

TMD can develop from a range of causes, including grinding or clenching (bruxism), stress, bite imbalance, injury, or arthritis of the jaw joint. Over time, it can lead to pain when chewing, difficulty opening the mouth, ear discomfort, and even neck or shoulder tension — significantly impacting everyday life.

At Park Road Dental in Cheltenham, we take a personalised, evidence-based approach to managing TMD. Our dentists carefully assess your bite, jaw movement and muscle activity to identify the underlying cause. We then design and make custom in-house appliances (splints/night guards) to help relax the jaw muscles, reduce strain and protect your teeth.

With early diagnosis and proper management, most patients experience major improvement in comfort and function. We may also recommend muscle therapy, bite adjustments, or relaxation techniques to further support healing.

Don’t let ongoing jaw pain affect your quality of life — book a consultation at Park Road Dental Cheltenham and let our experienced team help you find lasting relief.
